Thread: Clerkenwell prisoner in 1861 census lookup please

Can anyone tell me if there are any records for prisoners if someone was in prison during the 1861 census?

It would appear that one of my missing felows, Frederick Rider/Ryder, was in Clerkenwell prison during the 1861 census. RG9/194 f106.

This little sojourn would account for the gap in ages between his last children.

Is there any records that can tell me what he was in for etc?

Can anyone look up the census?

If you can't find anything on-line you could try seeing if anyone is going to the records office. I have a page of prisoners committed for different offences giving two brothers from my main line. It only gives the date, their ages, the date committed and for how long plus the offence. This was in 1824 so there may be a bit more by 1861, I am not sure. Have you tried the national archives on-line ? I am not sure off hand if they have these.
