Thread: Mary Crudge

Hi.

I need a bit of help with finding out about a Mary Crudge born c.1801 in Devon. She was my great, great, great, granny. She was married to James Summers.

Now, I know all about James' family, it's the Crudge side that I know nothing about.

Any info would be fantastic.

Do you have any idea where in Devon? Where did she marry?

Hi,

Presuming that I have found the right James and Mary Summers in the 1851 Census, Mary has her place of birth down as High St Mary. I think that should be Highley St Mary which is a few miles away from Oakford.

There is an extracted record on the IGI for a Mary Crudge christened 1798 in Oakford, she is the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Crudge

Oakford is exactly where they lived when they were married. Upcott Farm to be exact.

It is definitely the Oakford area.

Flippin' 'eck! I had no idea there were all those Crudge's in Devon!

I had the same problem with my Hackworthy side! There were over 200 of them all living in Devon.

Without help from the Ancestry Aiders I would never have got to my branch.

Jane Baker's book re. the Crudge Family of Bristol and Devon has a lot of useful Crudge genealogy. It is online. One online source is Brigham Young University digitized library.
