Thread: Edmund Derry Smith

Hi, I am trying to find the death of Edmund Derry Smith but can't seem to find it anywhere. He was born in Whatton , in Nottinghamshire in December 1844 and spent his life (well, up until 1911, then I can't find him anymore) living at Bingham, Notts. where he was married to Ellen Woodward and had 6 daughters and worked as Sexton at Bingham church. Derry was his mothers maiden name and all his siblings had it as part of their name too.

I would be forever grateful if anyone could tell me any info on Edmund after 1911 and when he died.

Have just read this post. I don't know how you've got on with finding out about Edmund!



I've found a reference for him in the 1912 Kelly's directory on Nottingham. He was the Sexton of Bingham.

There is an Edward D Smith died March qtr 1935 in Bingham aged 90. Vol 7b page 576.



It was quite common for Edmund to be converted to Edward in the 1900's. I found many of my Edmund's converted to Edward when they died. Edmund was a family name right through my fathers family line.
