Have you tried looking for them on the 1911 census? Another way to find George's occupation would be to buy his marriage certificate, or one of his childrens' birth certificates.

i have searched the 1911 census but he was in the army at different times , 1899 -1902, and also the great war 1914-1918, and i dont know what he was doing between these dates. one of his children george born 1926 was my wife's father.

His army records would probably say what his occupation was before he joined the army. They might also give marriage details and list his children.

You can use this ref to obtain their marriage certificate. Do you know when and where George was born?
