thanks for that, it sounds promising, do you know if william had a son william herbert, I have been told my g.father was born in edinburgh castle, his father william was a gardner/gamekeeper there.

do you have william born 1865 on 1881, 1891, or 1901 census. Ive tried looking but cant find him.

this is the only info I have, william herbert dempster born approx 1894/98 conflicting dates of birth due to age on his marriage certificate and age at death. his father also called william, born approx 1864/65 this is a guess, william herbert does not give his father william as deceased on marriage certificate so I am assuming he was still alive, but havnt a clue where he was living.



I have been told by recently found cousins that william herbert was def born at edinburgh castle where his father was the gamekeeper, on WH marriage certificate is says father william was a gardener.



the family moved to liverpool/manchester when WH was about 7yrs old, he joined the manchester reg signing on at seaforth.
