Hi Shirl,
Have you considered he may have been born in Scotland, or Ireland? I looked for him on census returns - but no joy, however there were a few John Mcsporran/Mcsparrons on Scottish censuses.
hi slizzy thank you for looking i do believe after you mentioned that yes he was (bugga) now i am stuck arent i

Not necessarily, Shirl. You could ask if anyone has spare credits on Scotlands People, or even purchase a few credits yourself. Sorry, I'm unable to help with Scottish ancestry as so far I've not found Scot's n my ancestry. Problem is - he may have been born in Ireland.
Have you tried finding the father mentioned (hopefully) on the marriage certificate, or even the witnesses?
his dad was john mcsparron a master, merchant service, john joseph was on the H.M. Trawler Chanticleer, milford haven, milford haven was a big fishing port at the time, alice may jones is a witness i have searched the only one about the same age is from cardigan, the other was sydney james buckenham, the only one i found around his age was 1884 in norfolk, lots of men came to milford from all over uk to work out of milford
Same name is really a pity as it does seem to apear that either the surname is mispelt (but I tried with loads of options unsuccessfully) or they are not from England or Wales, thus Slizzy looks correct that it is probably Scotland or Ireland. I'd try the former option as it is easier.
As a ships master maybe his father may be found easier as I'd assume he must have worked his way there over several years.
Maybe the National Maritine Museum might be able to help where to look for his records?
Regarding Scotish records if you play with the Year of birth parameters it is possible to cut down the options quite a bit. Not sure how you'd find a trawler captain on a census.
during the war phil they gave a trawler a diff name then after the war re registered her, back to original name, and with the docks long gone am stuck either way i know sometimes the mcasparron name is written mcsparrow but that must be misplet with the N thank you for your help bless you
The only John McSparron on the Scotish 1891 census is aged 24.
I can't find a John McSparron birth in Scotland! Not saying there isn't one just I seem to be brain dead
Using McSparrow was something I tried on the English/Wales census as it gives occupations on the 1901 results. Although a lot more hits (mainly) north of England still nothing positive.
Have you tried a death certificate for him (the son) as his age may be different from wedding, I know not a lot of help unless you need to search Irish records to cut down you field of research.
www.Scotlandpeople.gov.uk has 2 John McSparron (no mcSparrows)deaths one was born 1882 but as I can't find birth cannot prove he was born there.
Sure the Seaman Union would have his fathers records, they seem to be a closed shop as just about every merchant seaman seems to be one
With so few Scotish records 3 in all (no marriage record) if someone is unable to pull the records at least it will only cost you £5 to rule out a Scotish link (sometimes knowing what is not is useful too).
There was a John McSparron born in Jun 1892 Tyneside 10b 313.
Re-check the age on the marriage certificate I know that even if it said 22 not 32 it would still be wrong as he'd be 23-24 but that is all I can think of.
All the McSparro* in England & Wales(none) born 1880-90 seem to come from near Tyneside.
Unless he was born in Ireland![]()
Sorry to keep doing this but.
There is the following death reference:
McSparron John J Aged 49 Jun 1931 Haverford West 11a 1271
That means that at the wedding in 1916 he was 34.
So scrap my Tyneside find![]()
