    Default Sealing to parents

I have had information on some of the members in my tree where dates of sealing to parents are given.

One example is a birth in 1818. The date of baptism is correct and also the names of her parents. The date of Sealing to parents is given in 1976.

Is it usual for such a big time difference between birth and Sealing or would this be wrong.

Sealing to parents is a Mormon custom. Many people are sealed after they died - as part of family history. They aren't even Mormons.

    Hi Jeule,

What I am asking is: is it normal for there to be a gap of over a hundred and fifty years or does this need further checking. I have the film numbers.

    Hi Starlight,

my grandmother has been 'sealed' to her family - she was staunch Cof E and would be horrified to find this had happened to her via a different religion! It was done 80 years after her death, by her (much younger) sister in law who had become a Mormon and moved to Salt Lake City, so yes, there certainly can be a huge gap.

    Hi Somerset3,

I think my ancestors would be horrified also. One of these daughters married the son of one of the men responsible for the laying of the foundation stone at St.Denys church Chilworth. As far as I know it is C/E.

Bit of a grey area isn't it? I have mixed feelings - on one side glad for all the information they so generously share with us - on the other concerned as to some of the practices involved.

I guess the bottom line is it seems that anyone can be 'sealed ' to their family, at anytime, regardless of their thoughts/feelings.

    Best wishes.

    Thanks somerset3,

I haven't traced the line concerned much further than 1900. I am wondering now if by continuing the line if I would be able to find who had the sealing done. Then again, it may not have even been a member of the family but I am nosy.

    Hi Starlight,

It may well be worth a try - there's nothing to lose and they may turn out to be a connection.

Sometimes being nosy can be helpful.
