Thread: martha stringer

My grandmother Emily Stringer was born illegitimately in August 1900 in Burnley, Lancashire and it is believed her mother (Martha) died giving birth to her so her death would have been at that time. I have never been able to find any trace of her death. My grandmother was on the 1901 census living with another family (The Wilsons)as the grandaughter so I can only assume that William Wilson the son is her father although not declared on the birth certificate.

If anyone can find death records for Martha it would be appreciated. I have no other information about her at all.



I don't now actually think Martha died. I think my grandmother was told this but was actually given up to be brought up by another family as her mother was an unmarried mother and couldn't look after her. I believe Martha to be Martha Stringer, born 1880 Cliviger, later married to Edwin Penhallurick in 1902 and later living in Northumberland.

in 1901 census the baby is down as grandaughter perhaps to save face for martha



there is a person with the same person yr looking for on ancestry with a picture of emily is this you??
