Thread: Find my dad!!!

Hi folks i have tried to find my biological dad on my own, although i am having no luck. I think this is partly because i have no surname.



My dad was a soldier with the army i only know his first name and that my mum met him when he was in our home town on exercise, he came back to visit but we moved and he had no forwarding address. Can anyone help and give me info on how to find someone with limited info like this???

So he was not named on your birth certificate and your mum never mentioned his surname? Well this one may be insurmountable but never say never



I’m sure that you have already asked amongst the family but try to glean as “much” info that they can remember of him - or was he only known to your mum ? When I started my tree I spoke to relatives at length and was amazed at the details that they were able to tell me, which uncovered a whole raft of recent and ancient family secrets/names and events.



You don’t say what era/area you were born in – so any advice may differ accordingly.

I have tried asking everyone in my family who would know and none of them seem to know anything. I did get a little info from my sister in law today and she said apparently he was in thr paratrooper regiment which is something my mother never told, me the info i have seems to be all i am getting and seems as tho i am never going to find this man. My mother says he had a funny last name, well that could mean alot of different things, i actually think she knows but doesn't want to say incase i track thi man down after 25years. I was born in stranraer and this is where my mum met this man and was born in the july of 1984.

How about asking if anyone could recall his friends? It may be possible that your mum's friends went out with his friends for example? If you could track down one of his mates, that should get you there. People may be happier in giving you the names of his friends.



Did they go to any special events together? Do you have a photo at all, especially one of him in uniform so that someone could identify the regiment he was in?



Can your mum give you the initial of his last name? That at least would be a starting point. Best wishes anyway.

Hi thanks for all the comments. I have spoke to my mum again and she has given me all the information she claims to know. She met my dad in stranraer on an exercise through the army called purple warrior and he was aparatrooper, although there are lots of different regiments. I have tried to find out what regiment took part in the exercise but am having no luck, I know his first name is kevin and my mum says she can't remember the surname, she has given me 2 that both start with N and end in ski!!!! He wasn't named on my birth certificate and my mum didn't tell him abput me although she thinks the lady who moved into our house told him, so there is every possibility that he does know about me. I have asked everyonr that i can think of that will know and come back with little or no information.
