Thread: CMP (Canadian mounted police?/ canadian military police?)

Am looking for a missing uncle between 1929 & 1947.

born 1904, died 1977.

he was born, lived and died in east London and essex, England.

Name: George Edward LEA.

I have a time period of his life where he disapperared and the only think i know about him is that he may have been Military Police during this time (identified from Photo).

He is wearing a uniform with epaulets on his shoulders saying CMP.



all military websites say this is canadian military police and that he may have been based in britain

any idea where i might find him in records?

I can't think that he would be in the Canadian Military Police unless he was Canadian. I assume the Canadian records would be in Canada.



What is his occupation on his marriage/death certs?

marriage certs are not acurate as we have proved this guy has lied on both marriage certificates.



occupation at death was hospital attendant.

occupation at marriage was Tram worker (but he was infact AWOL from army) he was a private in Essex regt. have applied for his 3rd marriage cert (still waiting for that).

occupation on childrens birth certs was private in army, tram attendant, hospital porter.

he was in 3 different regiments prior to 1929 and discharged for lying or theft. after 1929 we have a picture of him in military police uniform, the cap badge is not clear to see, but the brassard/ epaulets on his shoulders say CMP, photo is abt 1940.

I have looked this up again since my first posting and CMP is Corps of Military Police.

many websites say this is a branch of the canadian military police (provost) that were stationed in UK from 1939 to 1948 mainly.



it is very possible that the canadian military police enrolled locals? as they suggest that their numbers were few and that their soldiers were sent to Canada for 2-4 weeks training and then returned to britain but i cant find anywhere proof that they took on british or that he was there.



the british army have no further records of him post 1929. i am trying to prove the link.

any help would be appreciated

his daughter has just said that he was in Canada at some point. doesnt know anything else about it. LOL
