Could be this one for his Father Charles... There are three Charles mentioned for births but one seems to old and the other too young...This one fits the bill but I,m not sure????

Hi.. Trouble is there are a few for Charles... Harold I think could be correct even though the surname is spelt Gillies...This can happen from time to time with names being wrongly transcribed.

On the 1911 census, there is just one Harold Gillas. I haven't enought credits left to open it at the moment. There are 4 more Gillas in households. 2 in Lancashire, 1 in herefordshire and 1 in Sussex.

    Hi Susan,

The 1911 ones did look promising as being in an institution with no father listed he could have been deceased. The ages could have been wrong as happens a lot on census records. Has your grandson any idea what area they were in ?
