Default marriage annulment ?? divorce? court case?

does anyone know where i can find out information about a marriage annulment c1947-1958.

my chap married 1st wife in 1925.

he married 2nd wife in 1947, but had never been divorced.

there was a meeting in london... annulment?

so he had to remarry the 2nd wife in 1960 presumably after a divorce and this meeting.

i am trying to find out where i might find out about a meeting or court case or divorce from the first wife.

My chap and all wives are now deceased and no family members have any papers.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

    Hi Lisa

Because of the dates youve given im wondering if these records are still closed to public. Could you not phone the records office in the county it took place . Unless another member knows more as im not sure myself.

The annulment would mean the marriage had not been consummated, OR that it shouldn't have happened because the bride/groom was already married/mentally ill/unable to understand what they were doing etc.

I am not sure where records of that exist, if they do.

    Divorce research info here; http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/f...orce/step3.htm

One way of being sure would be getting the 1960 marriage cert; if there was a divorce it should state the groom was divorced, if it was an annulment it should say he was single.

There seems to be a big time gap between the 1947 marriage and the proper one in 1960. Why did it take so long to realise it wasn't a proper marriage and how did it come to light, I wonder?
