    hi mrsp2008.

thanks for reply ,but thats as far as i can get ,i cannot find any info before marriage 1788,or after 2nd child 1792????.

However i have a theory that he came from Wiltshire ,you see a Mary Davidge took out a bastady order against a John Stoddart for a child born out of wedlock 1769,she had him baptised 1770 John Stoddart ,my theory is that she was shipped off to Lancashire and the son then used the surname Davidge only spelt Davedg ???? as i say a theory that i cannot prove as yet ,anyone know different,.

    all the best Chrisd

    Hi Chris,

I'm sorry I have not been unable to help further, but I stumbled across this after typing in just the parents names. I realise that this event was before their marriage, and the surname is spelt differently, but it may be a possibility

    Hi mrsp2008.

thanks for that i did find that one ,there is also a burial feb 1788 at bolton le moors for a Diana davage ?? cannot figure these out unless that was in fact eliz davage then aged 2yrs.

All very mysterious as we know they got married 1788 in Ecclesfield ,then its back to ringley when 1st child born.

I shall have to keep on ferreting away ,got to get a break sometime ,

would love to crack this as John is my direct line ,his surname was spelt several ways but surname ended up DAVAGE after 1841 census ,but he disappears after 1796 and before 1786 .

To many coincedences for him not to be right one .

Anyway thanks for your input and any more info you find would be most helpful .

All the best to you Chris

    Hi Chris,

I have found the following records for you to have a look at. I'm not sure whether they are your family or not. Another thing to bear in mind is that transcriptions are not always 100% accurate.

    Hi mrsp2008.

Now thats an interesting one ,is DINAH in fact eliz born 1786 ,if so who is Diana Davidge buried 10th feb 1788,Diana and John got married 25th mar 1788 ,was it maybe that the priest would not marry them if Diana(dinah)was not Christened??.

That still leaves me with where did John davidge(daveg, davedg, davig,Davage)come from and where did he go ,Dinah,s 2 children 1796 and 1803 ,where is John ?? is he dead ,did they break up,did he emigrate ,was he transported for some petty crime or worse ,this is my brickwall and i cannot knock it down .

thanks for input ,i shall keep looking .

all the best to you Chris.
