Default Trying to find James Hilton, Lancashire

James Hilton was born about 1818 in Atherton, Lancashire. He married Mary Baxter in 1854 in Atherton. They had several children before they married and 2 afterwards. Am trying to find his birth, and his parents. I think his father was called Samuel Hilton but don't know his mother's name.

Any help would be fantastic. Thanks Wilda

If you look on the site below you will find a brother and sister. There is also another James born 1814.

    Noggin

Thanks for your reply. Have had a look, but my James's father was Samuel (at least that was his name given on James's marriage certificate) in 1854.

    But, thanks for trying.

    Regards Wilda

    Hi Noggin & Welshlady

Thanks to you both for your replies.

Noggin: Will have a look at both of those, although James was suppost to have been born in Chowbent, Atherton. Still they often seemed to tell fibs on the censuses!

Welshlady: Yes I have the marriage details, but will look at the burial of John. One of the problems is that there was a Samual & Ann Gregory in Atherton at the time but their son James died in childhood and couldn't find another James born later in their family.

Hilton was a common name in the area at the time and so many gave their kids the same christian names! Very confusing for an old duffer like me. I can get confused all by myself - I don't need help!

Anyway thanks to you both, will look at the stuff you suggested.

    Regards Wilda
