    Default Hall & Walker

Searching for Australian relatives: I have only searched in the US and am fairly new to researching. I just can't get things to come up. Information I have is:Alison Lylie Hall, born 1944, I believe in Sydney. She married David Anthony Walker born 1950. He was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. Alison's father was Septimus Hall. Not sure of her Mother's name. Alison's sibs are, 2 brother's, Harrie Lester Hall and William Foy Hall. Both still living and born in Sydney. 1 sister Bernadine, passed away couple of years ago. Alison met David while traveling in UK. They married in Australia 1971 0r 1972. One suburb they lived in was Woolwich. I just can't seem to bring up much, but then again I must admit I am a bit confused about how the UK, Australia, New Zealand all connect and where births marriages, etc are registered. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

Thank you so much. I notice they seem to register births in Qtrs. Also we canin the US, access a census thru the 1930's with the 1940's being released next year, ( I think), but it seems in Europe it is much longer, thus harder to connect ancestors when information is limited. I appreciate all the help and continue to read the other posts. Very helpful site.

Births were registered in local register offices and sent quarterly to the General Register Office where they were amalgamated into indexes.

Deaths are usually registered within a few days of the event -- marriages of course are registered on the day, and births can be registered up to 6 weeks after the birth, so a child born in one quarter might actually be registered in the next.

A child born end of November or in December of one year would be registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of the following year, for example.

This looks like David's parents marriage:

    Civil Registration event: Marriage
William Walker married Sylvia M Pope
    Name: WALKER, William
    Registration District: Wednesbury County: Staffordshire
Year of Registration: 1948 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
    Spouse's name: Pope, Sylvia M
Volume No: 9B Page No: 2009

Australia only release Marriages upto 1961, Births 1911 and deaths 1981 in NSW. This is the site I refer to:
NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages - Historical Index Search

Was Alison's father Septimus Hall born in Australia?
