Default Can somebody help with this Question?

This isnt a lookup, but I wonder if somebody can answer a question. I have an ancestor who has been listed twice on the 1851 census. 1st in Sunderland Durham as head of household, by her daughter & son in law, and listed as being born in Hormead Herts.

2nd in bermondsey Surrey with her son and her elderly mother. Here both she and her mother are listed as being born in Langley Essex.

They are definatley the same person so my question would be is Hormead [the only place similar I can find is Great Hormead or Little Hormead] anywhere near Langley? Are they close enough together to be born in one place baptised in the other etc...

    I would appreciate any help.

I would imagine that she and her mother would be closer to the mark BUT... In 1841 census, her mother is in Bermondsey and saying she was born in the county

    Hi,

They are nowhere near each other. Durham is in the Northeast of England, up near the border with Scotland and Hertfordshire is in the southeast of England near London, hundreds of miles apart.

Forget my last, I misread your question. I have just looked up Langley, Herts in the atlas, only to find that there is also a Langley in Essex. However Little Hormead and Langley in Herts are about six miles apart as the crow flies.

Thanks for that. 6 miles isnt that far but probably was back then. I am thinking she may have been born around the `general area` or born in one place and raised in the other.

    Hi

D Bennetts "Parissh Locator" program shows that Langley Essex is 4 miles 39 degrees North east of Little Hormead.

The Btistsh Gazetteer is a useful website to find places.
