Thread: ancestry - yorkshire

Hello everyone

I am trying to find my ancestor john lakeland who was born in hemingbrough yorkshire 1791 with siblings, susannah, rebecca,joseph, and have been unsuccessful- my ancestor john had travelled to oz. from about 1810-1814- but I cannot find an entry by ship into australia- he was supposed to have been an assistant to public works- would that make him be in the navy or army?or may be privately employed- any clues on this matter would be greatly apreciated- many thanks

John arrived in Tasmania about 1814. He married Mary Louisa Arndell on 17 August 1818 in Hobart. He came to Tasmania as a Free Settler and Principal Superintendant Macquarie Harbour Tasmania. John died 26 November 1828 in Pittwater Tasmania. John and Mary had 6 children 2 died as infants. Edwin Arndell and Margaret Jane. Children are.

Mary remarried after John's death to Thomas Hestie White 24 February 1831 in Hobart. She was born 4 December 1793 registered Parramatta New South Wales.



Mary Louisa Arndell has links to my family. Unfortunately I did not find out which ship John arrived on.
