Thread: Tracing Irish relatives

Ok now I'm stuck! With a lot of help I've managed to trace relatives back to the 1861 census six of them were born in Ireland, one in England in 1854. Those born before 1851 don't show up on the 1851 UK census so I presume they came over from Ireland sometime after 1851 and before 1854 (when daughter was born). I haven't a clue where to start looking to find out when exactly they came to England and how or where in Ireland they came from . Could someone please point me in the right direction of where I should be looking, tried searching for passenger lists of ships leaving Ireland about that time but they all seem to be heading to the US or Canada. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

There were no passengers' lists kept for travel between Ireland and England as they were considered part of the same country then.



Irish ancestry is quite hard, I'm afraid, especially if you have no clue as to where in Ireland they came from.



I hope other members may be able to help further. I myself am stuck on my husband's Irish gt x 3 grandfather who is just a name on a marriage cert!

Thought it may be hard to trace them. I'll have to dig around to see if I can find any marriage records for them to give me an idea of where in Ireland they were from.
