Default 1859 Marriage lookup George Whitehead and Julia Sophia Morris

I am looking for a marriage certificate for my gggrandparents.

George Whitehead, b. 9 May 1840 - North Newton, Somerset, England and Julia Sophia Morris, b. 11 Nov 1834 - (an extracted record showing christening: 14 Dec 1834, High Street Presbyterian, Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales)

My hand written records from my grandmother, indicate that they were married, 9 May 1859 - Bristol, England. I do not have a marriage certificate for them and do not know what church/parish they were married in.

I did find what I think could be them in the BMD Index for:

District: Clifton; Vol: 6a; Page: 210. I think Clifton is in Glouchester.

I don't know what to do now. Could some one look that up for me and tell me what the certificate reads and if that is this couple. I live in the USA and do not understand where to send for the marriage certificate.

I am trying to find the names of Julia's parents: I believe her father's name is, Charles John Morris and mother Lousia Cox or Coy. I do not have any additional information on Julia's parents, no dates or locations.

I would appreciate what information you may be able to help me with. Thanks, sewzinajane

    Hi There Sewzinajane,

    Marriages Jun 1859

    Whitehead George Clifton 6a210

    Morris Julia Sophia Clifton 6a210

Lets continue.. Once your into the site you can then order any certificates on line.. You have both parties names and the area being Clifton.. 6a is the ref number and 210 is the page number..

Give it a try its very easy...I also have Whiteheads in my Family Tree..My Grandma,s maiden name was Whitehead... I will see what else I can find out for you.

    Hi Marion,

Thank you so much for the info as to where to order the certificate. Will the GRO have the same information as the local record?

    Regards

    Hi again Marion,

Thanks for your extra efforts. I was excited about the information that you sent on the 1841 census. It is possible that this could still be the family I am looking for. Julia did have a sister by the name of: Ellen Elizabeth Morris, b. 05 Jun 1836 and christened 11 Jun 1836 High Street Presbyterian, Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales. This is the first time that the name of Francis age 10 has been brought to my attention.

As to the the occupation of Charles, I came across the "Cambrian" (I think it was a newspaper in Swansea) index on line and there was this notation that I jotted down.

Journal: Cambrian; Catalogue Index: R44; Index Description: Culture And The Arts And Science, Buildings, Auctions And Sales; Journal Date: 21 Sept 1833; Text: Auction Mart Swansea. Charles John Morris takes over the premises."

If this Charles John Morris that you mention in the 1841 census was an auctioneer there could be a connection.

What were some of the neighbors names next to this family in the 1841 census?

    Any other Morris families?

    Thanks again,

    Sewzinajane

    Hi Marion,

Because of your 1841 census lookup on Charles John Morris I decided to see if I could find a death for his wife Louisa since you suggested she might have died. In the Cambrian newspaper index I found: “Death Notice: aged 29, Louisa, wife of Mr. Morris, auctioneer, Garden Street, Swansea, died 18 Jun 1836.” If this indeed is the one I am looking for (which now I think it is) she would have died 13 days after giving birth to her daughter Ellen Elizabeth on 5 Jun 1836. I then located another notice that: on 17 November, Mr. C. J. Morris, marriage to Miss Elizabeth Ward, at Unitarian Chapel, Swansea. So the information that was on the 1841 census that you located would make sense if this is the case. Did you happen to check out the 1851 census to see if they were listed there? Thank you again very much for taking the time to help me. Best Regards, sewzinajane
