Hi,



I wonder if anyone could help me find out details about William Smith who was my Great-Grandfather's Father.

I have found him on the 1891 and 1901 census, where it states that he was born in Petersfield and his age is 37 in 1891, and 45 in 1901. Hmm??



He married a Anne Barnett and they lived in Burgess Hill, Sussex. I am having trouble finding if when exactly he was born and where. His son, which was my Great-Grandfather was called Charles Percy Smith who was born in 1882.



Any help would be great. PLEASE!

Charlotte Waste is enumerated as Ann's mother, was Charlotte married twice?

I am not sure about Charlotte Waste at all Slizzy.



I have been trying to find William before 1891 too. Do you think they may have lived in a different place because the eldest son is down as being born in Brighton on the census?

Did you get Ann's maiden name (Barnett) from a birth certificate? I cannot find an Ann Barnett, with mother Charlotte on the censuses pre 1881. I am wondering if Ann had been married before, either her, or her mother must have been married twice. If you got her previous name from one of her children's birth certificates - which child's was it? Have you found William and Ann on the 1911 census? This census gives details of how long a couple have been married.

I got Ann Barnett from the birth certificate for Charles Percy Smith who was my Great-Grandfather who was born in 1882. The writing on it is not too clear, so that is what it appears to be.



I have looked at Charles Percy Smith's marriage certificate from 1903, that his place of residence was Sutton, Surrey at the time.

If you send for the certificate it will name their fathers' (providing they knew who their fathers' were) Also it will name the witnesses who could be other family members.
