    Default harriet Hudson death date

hi, my g/grandfather Lewis Hudon born 24 April 1865 at Ashby De La Zouch, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, England.

Birth Certificate shows mother Harriet Hudson,

Harriet is shown on 1861 census aged 15 living with parents Thomas and Sarah Hudson (nee Orme)

Lewis (louis) is shown living at grandparents address until his marriage.

There is no information of Harriet after the birth.

I am trying to find her location or death without success

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you all for taking time to read this,

    Regards, George

    Hi,

Could it be possible that the grandparents reared the boy as their son. This was sometimes done, pretending that the grandchild was their child to avoid any shame. Harriet could have moved away and later married. On FreeBMD there is a marriage for a Harriet Hudson in Shardlow in 1865, in Loughborough in 1867 and two in Ashby de la Zouch in 1868.

Hi Emeltee, many thanks for that swift reply, I think you must be correct, I shall investigate the marriages you quoted.

I am a novice in genealogy and find it intriguing and I am learning fast with the help of kind people like yourself

If he is shown as grandchild I doubt if the grandparents passed him off as their own. Many illegitimate children were looked after by grandparents or aunts because their mothers had to earn a living.

    Hi Helen,

Thanks for the input, all the census shows him registered as grandson so they were not trying to pass him as their own, but as suggested by Emetree, maybe his mother did move on and marry someone else,

I am about to send for a couple of Marriage certificates as the address should show if I have the right woman and if she survived under a narried name.

Thank you again for your input, it is all food for thought

    Regards to all,

    George
