Thread: Ellen Hemburrow's whereabouts between 1851 and 1861

Hi,



I have the following info about Ellen Hemburrow or Ellen Hagley:-



Born about 1840 Stoodleigh, Devon to Susan Hagley (father either unknown or else William Hamburrow)



1851 census: living in Wiveliscombe, Somerset with mum (Susan), (Dad or Stepdad William) and siblings aged 11.



I can't find her in the 1861, nor in the 1841.



I'm wondering if she married, emigated or died between 1851 and 1861.



Any ideas appreciated.

No luck with her on the passenger lists.

Thanks for the birth reference Starlight. I have also just found what I think may be her marriage to John Gillard Dec Q 1861 Tiverton 5b 793. I have hitherto been looking for her as a Hemburrow. If this is the correct person/marriage then she ought to be present with her maiden name in the 1861 somewhere, and appear as Mrs Ellen Gillard in the 1871 (AND as a check born Stoodleigh). Do you have access to the 1871? I don't anymore but I will rejoin ancestry.com in the near future.

Isn't William's surname meant to be Hemburrow .

This is WEIRD! I can't get my head around this at all. I am pretty sure that Susan Hagley had Ellen before she married William Hemburrow (who was much older than her, and who was a widower). Nevertheless, in the 1851 Ellen is given the name Hemburrow.



William Hemburrow had a much younger brother Robert born abt 1804 Exebridge (with no children) who I think Ellen stayed with for a while. She may have been with him in the 1871???



I think this is the wrong Ellen now although the Stoodleigh connection is extremely interesting.

Hi Mark, is this William's brother, Robert? If so he has a niece in the household, but she's Eliza.
