Thread: Thornley

I have my husband's G. Grandmother's birth certificate - Annie Thornley born 18 July 1879 Back Lane, Hyde, Stockport, Chester. Father Benjamin Thornley, mother Annie Thornley formerly Jones. Occupation of Benjamin Coal miner. Found Benjamin and Annie on 1871 and 1881 cencus and Benjamin's birth varies from 1841/2 Chisworth, Derbyshire. Oldest child appears to be Joseph born 1860 Chisworth. Annie is on 1891 with daughters Louisa and Annie - no Benjamin. Cannot find his death, did he go off with someone else?



Would like to find :-

1. Marriage of Benjamin and Annie - have looked but cannot find.

2. Death of Annie Thornley after 1891 where she is is Stockport sub Hyde.

3. Death of Benjamin.

4. Where are Annie and Benjamin in 1861, cannot find them on cencus.



Any help with any of these or any ideas of what other name they could have been put under very much welcomed.

Chisworth is in the registration district of Hayfield. FreeBMD has only one entry for a Benjamin Thornley registered in Hayfield

Thanks very much to both of you. I think he may be the 1839 one as if he wasn't born until 1848 it would make him 12 in 1860 when the oldest child appears to have been born. This has been a real mystery to me. I cannot find a marriage round about that time for him only an entry for Lacashire for 1862. Did she have children out of wedlock and marry him later? thanks again for your help
