Thread: John Sellwood 1811

Hello,

I am trying to find a John Sellwood 1811 who would appear to have moved from Berkshire to London, married an Elizabeth and had at least one son, Charles, in 1844 who was bap in Marylebone. John may have re-married to an Adeline Wade in 1862.

If anyone can find him in censuses I would be most grateful. Thanks.

Do you have any details about Elizabeth, eg date or place of birth.



I've also done a search on Adeline Wade. An Adeline Ann Wade did marry in 1862, but John Sellwood did not come up as a possible spouse.

Thank you Chris, for that. Unfortunately, the wrong one although one of mine. I should have said that John was christened Aldermaston Berks but may have been born Wasing.

I had originally got John dead in 1839 but am assured by another researcher who cannot give me proof that this is not so, and the John and Elizabeth above is him. I am trying to find proof via censuses but don't have access to Ancestry.

Just a quick update-I'm still on the case! I have a marriage for an Aterline Sellwood in 1873 in Marylebone, so I'm guessing she was Aterline not Aderline and that John Sellwood died sometime between 1862 and 1873.



I'll do some more digging and get back to you.

I too had found that marriage although I can only find a 20 year old Adiline Haynes wife of Charles, in 1881 familysearch, and she seems a bit young. Perhaps a dau of John and Aterline?

Hi again,



It appears to be getting quite complicated! I have found a death of a John Sellwood in the last quarter of 1871, in Newmarket, Cambridgeshire, estimated birth year is 1811. Dates and name fits, put place seemed a bit odd.



Anyway, I found an Aterline Wade, married to a Noah Wade living in Stetchworth, Cambridgeshire! She was born abt 1824 in Stradishall, Suffolk. I checked the marriage index and an Aterline Coote married a Noah Fenner Wade in 1844, in Risbridge Cambridgeshie.



Noah died in 1859 in Risbridge, Cambridgeshire.



I realise that I'm diverting away from John, but just trying to track Aterline in the hope of finding John. He must be on the 1871 with her somewhere!



I shal keep looking!

I think that this may be the Aterline Wade and she remarried to Samuel Gent and not Charles Haynes. She may well be John Sellwood's second wife and she moved back to Suffolk on her second marriage. As you say, finding John in 1861 or 1871 would help enormously.
