Default Ancestor from the Philippine Islands - need more help please!

    Hi,

I found out that one of my Blanco ancestors came from the Philippine Islands on the 1901 census records. The first place they came to was Liverpool in the UK, but I can't find any passenger lists on the web for them - any ideas? I am planning a visit to Kew National Archives to do more research.

I would be very grateful for any tips or advice.

    Thanks in advance

Kew is a bit bewildering for a newcomer but you will soon find your way round.

Link to their info on passenger lists:

    and for first time visitors:

as it says here you can pre-register which saves time - they take your photo now so be warned - when I renewed my reader card they snapped me when I wasn't expecting it and I look mad! You use your reader card to order stuff and can check whether or not its arrived in your box by scanning the card at any computer - they are all around Kew including the restaurant.

You can also pre-order up to 3 documents in advance which saves time too. I usually order other documents as soon as I get there, to maximise time.

You can also get vouchers to use the 1911 census free so I'd do that too.

    Enjoy!

Thanks both for your reply's and the advice for Kew!

The name of my ancestor is Francisco Blanco and his son Emilio Blanco.

Emilio is the name on the census saying Philippine Island, British Subject.

I think he was born around 1856 from the age given on the census. He got married in Liverpool in 1875, this is the first place in the UK recorded so far for him, so I presume he came into Liverpool docks. I can't find a birth certificate for him either!

    Hope you can help Kimmy!

    Thanks

Thanks Noggin, I have the 1891 census records, but I just can't seem to find anymore earlier info. The reason for thinking he came in through Liverpool, was that he married in Liverpool 1875, which is the first documented information I have on him. He doesn't come up on the 1881 census which makes me think he entered the UK after that!

His wife was born in London, so it is possible I suppose he could have come in there! He worked in the theatre according to his kids birth certificates, up until the 1891 census where it changed to the shoe trade!

I am stuck now! There must be some evidence of him entering the UK?!

    Am gonna keep on searching!

He must have entered before or in 1875 if he married in Liverpool.

I also have another puzzle - there are two children born to Emmeline and Emilio Blanco in apparently the same year - 1877

Francisco Blanco born Dalston, London on the 1891 census (aged 14), and Alberto Blanco born in Leeds on the 1891 census for a Boys Industrial School - also born Oct 1877 (aged 13) I have Alberto's birth certificate, but cannot find Francisco's!

How can the two boys be from the same mother born in the different parts of the country in more or less the same year?

Am I missing something or is this possible?
