    Default Marriage Certificates 1850 - 1860

    Hi

This is my first post here after some time reading older threads. I hope I observe your protocol.

I am currently trying to trace my grandmother's line Moulds/Mould and have reached a stalemate with my great great grandparents as from my research the 2 males appear to be brothers.

I have found the information for the two marriages which took place in 1852 and 1860.

Before I send for certificates I'm anxious to know if marriages in the uk (Yorkshire) from those dates carried the names of fathers as they did by 1880.

If they don't then the certificates will not help me to confirm the information I already have.

    Thank you in anticipation

    Gillian S

    Hi Gillian,

Welcome to AA Don't worry too much about posting in the wrong place, we've all done it when we first joined. We can easily move a post to the correct or appropriate forum.

To answer your question: If a bride, or groom knew their father's name then it should be on the marriage certificate, this would be true of all cert's from 1837 onwards. The certificate should also have the couples, and their respective father's occupation.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for your very quick reply.

I can now send off for the certificates of the 2 marriages.

The marriage certificates I've previously sent for were for marriages in the 1880's and being on a pension I didn't want to waste money if the 2 from 1852 and 1860 didn't contain the important information I'm looking for.

    Kind regards

    Gillian

Just a follow up to my question re. marriage certs.

I sent for and received the 2 certificates and it pretty well confirms what I suspected.

The 2 are most probably brothers as the father's name and occupation are the same.

In addition one brother and his wife are the witnesses for the other brother's marriage.

    A satisfactory conclusion.

I thought you might like to know the outcome of my enquiry.

    Thank you, again.
