Thread: UK 1871 Census help please?

Is there anyone who can help me locate Margaret Saunders Roberts on the 1871 census. She was born in 1862/63 possibly in wales somewhere. Her father was Evan Roberts and was a cashier/book keeper in later census records. Her mother may have been Sarah or Jane, Sarah may have been evan's first wife and she had a brother Charles Ernest Roberts and sister Clara Jane Roberts. I've got the 1881 census I think and she's not on it, she was in service by then.



Any help would be gratefully received.

Where is Evan Roberts on the census?



I can't see a birth registration for Margaret. Where do you get her birthyear from?

FreeBMD has an entry for a Margaret Sanders Roberts (not Saunders)

Apart from that Roberts is a fairly common Welsh name and there are hundreds in the 1871 Census but I can't find a Margaret Saunders/Sanders Roberts nor an Evan Roberts book keeper/cashier. Sorry

I've got her marriage certificated and death certificate. She died on 08/01/1916 age 53 and she was 30 when she married on 13/01/93. I think she was probably born in 1862. I've found Evan on the 1891 census RG12/3184 folio 26 pg9. Evan died on 09/10/1900. I thought I had the 1881 census but can't find it. I was told that Margaret was born in Aberystwyth in 1863 but it must have been beginning of Jan that year if that was the case. Thanks for your help

There is a ref on FreeBMD for a Margaret Roberts born Jun 1862 Aberystwyth vol 11b page 72. Could this be her?



I have done a search of the 1871 Census for all Margaret Roberts born 1862/3 but cannot find one with a father called Evan. Sorry

Would I be better looking for her sister on the census - clara jane roberts born flintshire 1868 and charles e roberts born 1870 barnsley perhaps if I find them, I might find her, what do you think?

Thank you very much, I didn't realise Clara and Charles had two older brothers and a sister, Margaret is proving to be quite a mystery! Perhaps I'll try Margaret Saunders and see what that throws out! Thanks again.
