Thread: Littleman family from Lancashire

My great, great grandfather, John Hunt (born c1830) married Charlotte Littleman (born c1836) , at St.Philip registry office in Manchester in 1855. Charlotte's parents were John Littleman(born c1802), a blacksmith & Lucy (born c1810). I found John's family in the 1851 cencus, but under the name of Lilliman ( an error in transcrition ? ), however since then I've been unable to find any trace of his family under either name. I would appreciate any further information of thier history.

A little more info would be helpful.



Where was Charlotte born ? The 1851 Census you refer to it is Lilliman and on this she was born in Gainsborough, Lincs. Did you get her father's name from the marriage cert if not how do you know her parents names ? This is were certs become inportant. Where was John Hunt born ? I

Is this the Family ? If so you might be right that Littleman as been written as Lilliman and is the same Charlotte is was born in Gainsborough. I would still want the Marriage cert for prove of her father.

Yes Noggin, your 1861 census entry ties up with the 1851 one, thankyou. However I'm mainly interested with the Littleman family history. I have John & Charlotte's marriage certificate (where I got her father's name & occupation) & also the birth certificate of thier first son, Alfred (my great grandfather), who was born in Ashton- under-Lyne in 1856. Thanks again Noggin for your extensive search on my behalf, you certainly have been busy on it. I have yet to analyse all the info you've given, but it looks like there is some co-relation between the Lilliman & Littlleman names. I've also noticed on John/Charlotte Littleman's marriage certificate, that one of the witness was Sarah Littleman, who I presume was Charlotte's elder sister. So any relevant family lists (eg census records) should include her name, which may help narrow the field down somewhat.
