    Default Richard William Smirthwaite/Elizabeth Newman

I am searching for the death record of Richard William Smirthwaite & his wife Elizabeth (nee Newman). I cannot find anything in the normal BMD indexes. I have their marriage cert. & I know from family that Richard lived in Smethwick, Staffs (now West Midlands) towards end of his life. He was a butcher. It is believed he died around 1942, and wife prior to him. There is a suggestion in the family that they are both buried in the Uplands cemetery in Smethwick. Can anyone tell me what I have to do to check the cemetery records ?

I have searched the Death Index from 1935 – 1945 and no sign of Richard or Elizabeth.

The only Smirthwaite deaths from that area are Sarah E dies Q1 1935 aged 64, Catherine Q2 1935 aged 62 and Ellen Q2 1945 aged 46.

Thank you geniegenie, I have already looked at those death indexes, but appreciate yr help. I suspect the approx date of death for both of them is wrong. My father-in-law is 89, and his memory is not so good. In addition to that, he fought in WW2 which is around the time of Richard's death. Father-in-law was probably overseas. Am trying some other avenues.

    Regards from Yanto

Thanks to all who tried to help me find the death of Richard William Smirthwaite. I have now found it ! 21 Jun 1946 in Birmingham. Father-in-law was adamant he died before the end of WW2. Did searches up to 1945 without success. Just shows....don't rely on relatives memories !
