Thread: John Price born 1824-1832 Bristol trying to find baptism and parents

I've just purchased the marriage certificate of John Price and Caroline Gough Dec Q 1874 Bedminster, Bristol/Somerset. John is listed as being 44 and a bachelor. I suspect him to be a widower though from clues in the early census's including a daughter too old to be Caroline's. I am trying to find out about his life before his marriage to Caroline, his first marriage (if there was one), the death of his first wife, his baptism, parents, place of birth etc. The marriage certificate tells me his father was also called John and was a Smith. John the younger was a haulier at the time of his marriage to Caroline, and in later censuses he was a marine store dealer. Any help with this would be gratefully received.

Could this be Mary Ann, if so John was previously married to a Sarah.

Thanks Noggin28, these two facts would appear to tie in. Mary Ann is the name of the daughter who appears in one or two of the censuses and who is too old to belong to Caroline. I have been trying to unravel this branch of my family for twenty odd years. They had a habit of adopting different names to that on their birth certificates. Can you suggest any other evidence that may exist to prove I have the right John Price, both John and Price being very common names. I dont have access to the 1861 census anymore and I dont recall finding either John or daughter Mary Ann in it. I suppose I could look for the death of a Sarah Price in FreeBMD.
