    Default Skilton surname of Surrey

I am trying to link this surname to my Lakers.

I have a Mary Ann Skilton witnesses to my grandfathers William John Laker/Elizabeth Ann Green marriage in 1898......

I then also have F. Skilton Aunt (could be Florence I think), attended the birth of my auntie Mary Ann Elizabeth Green, born 1896 to Elizabeth Green as above, not Williams child though proven by birth cert. father unknown.

Any suggestions as to where I should make a start, ie marriages

probably Surrey, could be Caterham/Godstone Borders.....

    thanks for your time..

Have you any idea who the two Skeltons might have been?

Could one be the sister of Elizabeth Ann who married a Skelton and the other her daughter ? Who were Eliz. Ann's parents, ie Could it be one of her fathers sister's who married a Skelton. Did her father have a sister Florence ?

Thomas and Mary Ann in 1891, living in Warlingham. Fanny King is a lodger. Helena E a cousin.

At this stage this is merely a MAYBE, more work needs to be done, and at the moment I have no way of linking them to the Lakers

I can't see William John Laker, hs wife, or Mary Ann Elizabeth Green on the 1901 census. What else can you tell us about them? When and where were they born, have you found them on the 1901 census, what were their parents names?

A big thank you to you both for replying to my message .....

I am going to print off all of these messages and do some research, have triple checked my tree through my "Greens" and "Lakers", and found nothing that might relate to the Skiltons.......

Now I am going to scan and forward this information to a "new" cousin I found a while ago to see if he has any ideas as to whether these are "our" Skiltons.......

Slizzy have never been able to any of my Lakers on the 1901 Census or any preceding Census, but joy of joy finally found them on the 1911 Census.

On the 1911 Census it stated that William John Laker was born in Shorham Sussex, note the missing "E". Confirmation of age using 1911 Census, Marriage Certificate, and Death Certificate as being born in 1869..

Birth Certificate of which I have quite a few, all incorrect father.

Williams father was also named William John Laker occupation Seaman.

No other details I am afraid......

No link to any of the Lakers (sons and daughters of William), all marriages etc., tripled checked........

Elizabeth Ann Green his wife was born in 1876 Ilkestone Derby. Proven by birth certificate. Elizabeths parents were Edward Green 1839 - 1929, and Mary Ann Quittenton 1841 - 1928.

All Greens checked for possible link to Skiltons - nothing.

Hope I haven't rambled on to much......

I am very grateful for the time and trouble you have taken for me.. I will get there one day.

Success have received the Marriage certificate for my Auntie Fanny Keziah Green and William Skilton dated 1885, and yes it is the correct one.

Have found Fanny and William on the 1901 Census with some of their children (if not all), but still cannot find where Mary Ann fits in...

Hopefully with more research I'll find her somewhere...
