Thread: Wells family in Ireland

I am trying to research this family from England and have no access to the records. Does anyone know how I can find out where someone was born in Ireland. I have a date of birth for Catherine Wells-21st December 1831.Father was Edward Trott Wells, mother Margaret Kilkelly-marriage on 18th November 1830. Catherines grandfather was George Wells who was english and a navy man-could have served during the napoleonic wars. When discharged from navy he went to Ireland to join coast guard.



Alot of information you may think, but without any knowledge of where in Ireland I am stumped. On 1911 census Catherine (now Caffrey) is living in Quigaboy, Sligo with one son -says born County Mayo

On 1901 census says born Sligo. How do I find out for certain

Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898 slight changes were made to the boundaries of Counties Galway, Clare, Mayo, Sligo, Waterford, Kilkenny, Meath and Louth, and others.

The County Sligo portion of the civil parish of Kilmoremoy along with part of the neighbouring parish of Castleconnor (part of the Sligo barony of Tireragh), were transferred to County Mayo. This area is to the east of Ballina town.

From this I would think she may have been born in either Kilmoremoy or Castleconnor in Sligo unless she had it completely wrong.

Hello Librarybird, I came across your thread from a search engine and I am too researching Edward Trott Wells. I have viewed the birth records or what is on-line and I have not come up with his name. I did locate his death records on the Irish Civil Registration 1845-1958. I am a little bit confused because from family member (Caffrey) they state his father name was John Wells not George but when I look on the the baptism records for minehead John and both had sons name John and George respectfully. I am leaning towards George being correct since burial records in Minehead showed that John died at the age of 80 on 3 Oct 1835.
