    Default Marlbrough, Ireland

    Hiya

Having viewed the 1911 census my gg granmother Theresa Bergin/Nunn has put that she was from Marlbrough Ireland. Does anyone know which part of ireland this is in, in 1901 she said she was born in Queens County i have looked at a map of QC - loais and can only find a Marybrough, is there a Marlbrough or have they spelt it wrong and it is marybrough.

    thanks

I cannot find a Marlbrough in Ireland so I would assume thet the L was a Y.

The family is on the 1881 census in England her youngest sibling was 10 years old and born in Ireland, they are not on the 1871 English census.

So must have travelled over between 1871 and 1881.

You could try shipping records between Ireland and Great Britain for this period. Although it may be less likely that on a larger journey.

Also have you tried looking up other family members on the censuses for alternatives?

Hi thanks for taking a look

The family in the 1881 census isn't them. Theresa only shows in 1901 and 1911. It defintely says marlbrough on census return i'm just guessing they spelt it wrong.

    thanks again

this site will explain about the changes to County Queens, and Marlbrough. They did exist but now have other names.

    Hiya Noggin28

Thanks for the reply, at least now i can concentrate on Marybrough rather than just searching aimlessly.

I think this is the right place, spelt Rahan. County Offaly boarders the northern edge of County_Laois.

My son lives in County Kildare which is the eastern boarder to Offaly
