    Default ilegitimate.

Hi everyone, I sent for the marriage cert for my gg grandmother Mary Buckley, her surname on the certificate is Buckley, but fathers name Thomas Bell (stonemason) I have searched the censuses trying to find this Thomas Bell with no success. What is quite strange is that Mary named her first son Thomas, which makes me think mmaybe she knew her father. I think Mary and her mother were in the workhouse when Mary was a baby, could anyone advise me as to where i can find out more? There were so many Mary Buckleys born in the area that i wouldnt know which birth certificate to send for. Many thanks .

well have been having agood look around and it is a bit of a mystery. i cannot find a thomas ball stonemason anywhere appropriate but i can find a thomas buckley stonemason living in davenham in 1841 (davenham being where mary hall says she is from in 1861 census)

    Name:Thomas BuckleyAge:20 Estimated Birth Year:abt 1821Gender:Male Where born:Cheshire, EnglandCivil parishDavenham Hundred:Northwich County/Island:Cheshire Country:England

    Occupation:mason

    Registration district:Northwich Sub-registration district:Middlewich Household Members:NameAgeMary Buckley47 William Buckley20 Thomas Buckley20 Samuel Buckley16 Mary Buckley14 Elizabeth Buckley12

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 121; Book: 3; Civil Parish: Davenham; County: Cheshire; Enumeration District: 9; Folio: 11; Page: 16; Line: 12; GSU roll: 241250.

and also on this website which is good for cheshire records

    http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb

    there is this

    Field Name Field Value KEYCODEDAVNC04001276.20209PADVERdavnC1276.2PARISH_ CODEDAVNTAGGED0DATED1843 05 21FORENAMEMARY ANNESEXFFATHER_FORENAMETHOMASMOTHER_FORENAMEALICES URNAMEBUCKLEYOCCUPATIONSTONEMASONRESIDENCELEFTMULT IPLE_TWINSX3

showing that thomas buckley, stonemason , had triplets (including one called mary anne) in 1843 in davenham so he was definitely around inthe right place and time. this doesnt explain thomas ball being quoted on mary buckleys certificate etc and this mary born 1843 would be a bit young to marry in 1858

i cant find a mary buckley born 1837 on that site.

so a bit of a mystery

Hi Welshlady, thank you very much indeed for your trouble, I really appreciate it, its a Thomas Bell that i am looking for and not a Buckley, back to the drawing board. Sarah Buckley bcame pregnant by the ellusive Thomas Bell (stone mason) and Thomas Bell was named as father on Marys marriage certificate; i have tried to tried to find him but to no avail , he was my 3rd times great grandfather according to paper work. thank you very much for your efforts to help me . if you can find this Thomas Bell i would be grateful . Regards Sadies x

Hi again welsh lady, i have mary in all the censuses, 1841 census she was staying with afamily called Thwaites or similar, but cannot find them in other censuses. We had a very kind distant relative "on the case" but lost contact . It was he who went to Cheshire record office and gave me the info that Marys mother was called Sarah from Middlewhich , Cheshire,. and that when mary was christened it sa id Mary Buckley of the workhouse. Apparentley marys mum had another daughter out of wedlock called Elizabeth. Mary`s mum sarah went on to mary Isaac Sant of Middlewich and had more children. Thats all i know really. Thanks again for your efforts . Regards Sadies x
