    Hi Glynis,

I saw your introduction and noted that you mention Sarah Anne Hardman – I now see that she was your Maternal Grandmother.

The following is the record reference for her marriage

    Marriage Q2 1912 Bury

    Sarah A Hardman Vol. 8c Page. 992

Frank Carter Vol. 8c Page, 992

    Your Mum’s Birth record

    Name: Doris Carter

    Mother's Maiden Surname: Hardman

Date of Registration: Oct Nov Dec 1928

Registration district: Bury Registration county: Lancashire

    Volume Number: 8c

    Page Number: 635

From the sibling names you mentioned I have found the following

    Name: Lily Carter

    Mother's Maiden Surname: Hardman

Date of Registration: Oct Nov Dec 1921

Registration district: Bury Registration county: Lancashire

Volume Number: 8c Page Number: 914

    Name: Dennis Carter

    Mother's Maiden Surname: Hardman

Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1931

    Registration district: Bury

    Registration county:Lancashire

Volume Number: 8c Page Number: 654

The following could be the 1st born son considering your Grandad’s name:-

    Name: Frank Carter

    Mother's Maiden Surname: Hardman

Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1916

    Registration district: Bury

    Registration county: Lancashire

Volume Number: 8c Page Number: 928

There are also the following that are born with mother’s maiden name Hardman in Bury, Lancashire around that time. However, as there was another Hardman (Eliza) who marries a Carter (Stanley) in 1921 in Bury, there are quite a few carter births that show up in Bury around that time, with Hardman as the mother’s maiden name.

    Elsie 1921, Geoffrey 1924, Gladys 1925, Ronald 1925, George 1927, John 1932, Donald 1934, Irene 1935, Norman 1937.

This shows the entry for Derek on the marriage reg. you really need to get the marriage cert to get the correct surname of your father. On the Marriage reg it states Derek C Speakman and on both your parents death reg it states the surname as Chester Speakman. I can find no Birth reg for your Father around the dob shown on the death reg.

    Hi Glynis

I know it can all seem very daunting, at first.

There are loads of ways to keep your info safe and add to it so that you can build up a complete picture of your family.

You have the facility to build your family tree on this site. See Family Tree Maker (next to home at the top of the page). You can simply select, copy and then paste the info into a text program that you are comfortable with, so that you can refer to it at any time during your research. Your subscribed threads from this site are also saved to your account which you can access from the site home page.

I’ll take a look around and see what I can find out about your Dad.

    Happy Hunting
