Dear Ardnas,
There are quite a few George Sime, Syme, Symes etc born around that time and not too far from Edinburgh. So...
The marriage certificate if it is Scottish will probably tell you both their parents names, their addresses and occupations. (You never said where).
It might be quicker to trace the marriage certificate first.
That with the addresses and occupations will give you less chance of getting a false lead and making the journey backwards much quicker.
Somene might be able to pull the details off the marriage certificate for you, or else you can get a digital copy downloaded from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk at a price.
Give as much information you can to help others help you, and they usually will.
Yesterday I recieved help to find 18 new relatives on a directline that I thought had reached a dead end with a few years ago. Good luck![]()
PhotonPhil,
Thank you very much for your reply.
George and Jessie were married in Edinburgh, I'll have to go through all my papers because I can't remember where I got this info (I'm a nightmare) I have had loads of info from SP, so I better check on there as well.![]()
I did a quick check on the above website and there was a hit for those names and date, however as I do not have a subscription it would cost £6 to view the results I think that it the minimum cost. Registering is free.
The only free part of the site is to check Wills and Testate entries.
These however can have date of death and the address of the person
So if you are cheep like me you might get extra info for no cost!
Worth a look, yesterday I got a death date for free.

Hi Phil,
£6 gives you 30 credits to use. It costs 1 credit to view the transcript and 5 for reading the whole image.
I had a look on SP and got this -
No Year Surname (M)Forename (M)Surname (F)Forename (F)District City/County/MRGROS DataImage Extract11895 SIMEGEORGE BROWNJESSIEHILL ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN
Hi Ardnas,
Marriage
01 Aug 1896
7 E?almers Street
Edinburgh
George Sime, Bachelor, Butcher, 27
121 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh
Parents :- David Sime, Mason & Jessie Wilson
Jessie Hill Brown, Spinster, Domestic Servant, 20
Parents :- David Brown, Railway engine driver & Helen Hendry
You are right that you get 30 credits, but it is still costs £6 just to look up one image.
I was trying (unsuccesfully as I never elaborated) to point out that you need to make good use of the searches to be cost effective by getting all your information sorted before you use pay sites.
I hate those with time limits as I invariably have credits over which expire just before I need to use them again for another search
Trying to search for someone like my ancestors John/James Burns became to cost ineffective. I don't mind paying for the right info just not 200 wrong ones![]()

Phil,
It costs 5 credits to look at an image, that leaves you with 25 credits to look at 5 more or look at 25 more transcriptions.
