Default 1947 2nd Quarter death look up please...

I think I may have found my Great Aunt Dorothy but the burial records don't show a first name, a DOB or an age at death. The date of the burial was

20th May 1947 in Melcombe Regis...

I do have a death index reference but I can't find it on the records.

    The reference is Plymouth 2nd Quarter. 1947. Vol.7a Pg.661.

Dorothy's full married name was Dorothy May Mayes (nee Crockford), b. 4th May 1903 in Alverstoke, Hampshire.

If I can verify the reference is correct then I can apply for her death certificate.

    Any help would be great

    Hi Kirst

I cant find an entry in the Death Indexes for a MAYES in that Qtr registered in Plymouth. I also looked under CROCKFORD, but nothing.

Where did you get the Ref No from, if you cant find it in indexes? Could you apply to the local Register Office with a condition it is only issued if it relates to Dorothy? There may be a small charge, but not the full £7.50

Good Luck with your research and sorry I couldnt help much

It was on one of those annoying bits of paper... you know the ones I mean where you get interupted in the middle of writing something & THEN LOSE IT FOR 6 MONTHS!!!

So I have no idea where or why I wrote it down & now it's driving me mad... never mind... thanks everso much for looking... I've just got in touch with a cemetery... they may be able to point me in the right direction.

The cemetery replied, but unfortunately it was an infant... I shall keep looking.

No I wasn't sure of the year or the exact town, but the 1947 death isn't my G.Aunt anyway. I've searched from 1941 through to 1956, but no luck. (A Dorothy May Mayes ~ died Marylebone is not her either)

These are the nearest matches I found:

    Mayes Dorothy 2mr 1903 Downham 4b 1336 4Q 1971

    Mayes Dorothy May 7 Jly 1904 Watford 10 0739 1977 1Q 1977

There was one in Poole but she was born 1895

Could she have been reg. as Dorothy May Mays
