He married either Emily Jane Phillips or Mary Ann Steele. The easiest thing to do would be to get the cert. Without knowing his age, place of birth, or where he was likely to be in 1901, then looking on the 1901 Index is a bit futile. He doesn't come up as being in Southampton. If he was a seaman he might have been on a ship.
