    Default A weird request....!

    Hi there,

    I'm researching the Bonson surname. A few years ago I compiled a list of all Bonsons born, married and died in England and Wales (1838-2004), with all the Volume and Page numbers. If I recall correctly, from ancestry.co.uk.

    I started transcribing it and realised that I might have made a mistake on the Vol. and Pg numbers, from 1947 onwards. I can't go and check as it is no longer a free look-up service after 1915. Unfortunately freebmd.co.uk only cover dates up to about 1940.

    Would it be possible for anybody to check the following Volume and Page numbers for me:-

    1. Death record:- Richard Bonson; died 1946, quarter 4(Oct/Nov/Dec),Barnsley

    2. Death record:- Annie M Bonson; died 1947, quarter 2, Westmorland N

    3. Death record:- Alfred Bonson; died Apr 1989, Huddersfield

    Your assistance would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Millih

    Teresa,

    Thank you so much for the look-up, it is appreciated.

    Now my dilemma and maybe you can help me with it.

    From 1838, the Volume numbers were the same for the different areas, i.e Barnsley, Yks, West Riding was 9a,b or c;

    Westmorland was 10a,b... ;

    London was 1a,b....

    and so forth.

    Since 1946, during the 4th quarter the Volume numbers changed, i.e

    Barnsley, Yks, West Riding became 2a,b....

    Westmorland became 1a,b...

    London became 5a,b...

    to name a few examples.

    And so it changed for all the different areas, right up to 1973. From 1974 the letter following the number was omitted.

    Can you tell me why this happened?

    Thank you

    Millih

    Hi

    I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question.

    I think it would be best to post a new thread, there are many people on here much more experienced than me who may be able to answer your question.

    Good luck - Teresa
