I did find another Thomas but born much later..He was the son of John William Wastnedge and Elizabeth Colley.. Maybe Thomas born about 1811 was his Grandfather?

Hi Genseeke,
This could be him in 1851, if him, he's mistranscribed and looking at the original it certainly could be WASTNEDGE. I'm assuming you have access to the census returns, if you don't, let me know and I'll post more details.

this is one very strange family, I have been digging around the census records and have found Thomas on the 1841, 1851 and 1871 census, but not on the 1861 census. Thomas must have died between 1871 and 1881 cause his wife Maria was a widow on the 1881 census.
Thomas and Maria's first son Richard, I am thinking he was born illiegimate, because on the 1871 census he was Richard Wragg, and Wragg was his mother's maiden name, and on the 1881 census he is Richard Wastnedge, and it is the same family.
I might have found the mother of Thomas, on the 1871 census Thomas was with his mother Ann Gladall/Gleadhall, and I did a search for a marriage to a Robert Gleadall and Ann Wastnedge and they married in 1811 in Sheffield.
So who was the father for Thomas or could have Thomas being illiegimate, this wouldn't surprise me if Thomas was, cause a lot of my Wastnedge's were.
Hello
I think I can throw some light on Thomas Wastnage born 1810 in Derbyshire. He married Maria Wragg 23/03/1835 at Chesterfield. He was my husband's 2 x great grandfather. I searched for many years for his birth in the Eckington registers. It was a long story but I found from the original register that he was baptised as Thomas Westney son of Ann. Further searching through the Parish Registers I found a death just four months previously for a Thomas Westony (obviously his father). Subsequently, in 1811 his mother Ann married Robert Gleadall.
Now I think that Thomas, because of his mother's remarriage and the birth of more children, became detached from his father's birth family. I have not been able to find his death. He was, I suspect, alive in 1865 as he was given as father on his son Robert's marriage certificate. It did not say deceased. A daughter Ellen was born in 1853. Don't know where he was on 1861 Census. Maria says 'married' but by 1871 she is a widow!!
Thomas's father, was indeed Thomas Wastnage he married Ann Freckley at Sheffield Cathedral St Peter in 1809. I believe he was born in 1781 the son of William Wasnidge (b circa 1750) who married Mary Lee in 1770. This latter piece of information has been sent to me so I have not checked it out.
William(1750) was the son of William Wasnige (of Brampton b 1714) who married Mary Cundall in 1746 at Rotherham. Father of this William was also William Wasnige of Brampton died 1729 married to an Elizabeth
I have been endeavouring to sort this tangled family out for 16 or 17 years but feel that the information I have is correct. I have checked with official records as far as Thomas's Marriage to Ann Freckley - the rest has been given to me by a very reliable source which I understand has been checked but it would probably be as well to do your own checks if possible. I do have a family tree with more information - siblings etc.
There was also a John William Wastnage in my husband's family in the 19th century. Hope this is of help.
Edmay- Thanks for the information on Thomas. I'm a decendant of Thomas Wastnadge, then Ellen Wastnedge. I had also got stuck at a simliar point as genseeke with Thomas. I'd also love to know more on siblings etc.
I wondered if either of you know of any relatives that are still Wastnages/Wastnidges/etc? Our branch now has only one male Wastnedge left, with two daughters. I would love to know if there any (distant) relatives out there to carry the name on.
