Default Looking for Priscilla Nellie Smith

    Looking for Priscilla Nellie Smith.

She was born in 1905 in West Bromwich to Polly (nee Wenlock) and William Isaac Smith. In 1925 she was working as a domestic servant in a house on Yew Tree Avenue,Smethwick. She had a daughter who she gave up for adoption in 1928. After that I have come up against a brick wall, as I can't find a marriage or death for her or even any signs of emigration. I was hoping to find the family on the 1911 census which might show any siblings she had, but I can find no trace of them at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much for that Welshlady. I think I will send for the certificates. The birth does seem unlikely but not impossible.

    Will do.

I have just noticed the names you are researching. My mother-in-law was born a Bailey. The family all came from Odd Rode in Cheshire. A lot worked for Rode Hall as gardeners or game keepers or rented farms. We have their tree going back to the 1700's. Any connection with your Baileys?

The "Baileys" are in my OH tree but i am having a bit of a problem finding info on them. there are so many in the area that i cannot pin them down. i have Martha Bailey born congleton 1856 who marries Edward Byron. her father was John bailey (coal miner in biddulph) born congleton 1831 and her mother eliza armitt. martha had two siblings J Bailey and Mary bailey. and that is all i know. i have them on 1861,71 and 81 census.

as they are from congleton and mining family unlikely to be connection but you never know.

I have had the marriage certificate today. William Isaac's father is also called William Isaac, a farmer living at 8, Lower Darlington Street, Wednesbury. I can't find the family on the 1881 census, but they are on the 1891. I have their names but no other details yet.

    William I

    Priscilla E

    William I

    Phoebe E

    Caroline M

    George Henry

The Priscilla I am looking for must have been named after her grandmother.

Her mother's father was Thomas Wenlock, a wheelwright, of 8 Cross Street Wednesbury.

I hope the birth certificate comes soon, (if the parents are correct)
