Thread: Help to search for my nan's brother.

I'm in the process of researching my family tree. My great nan moved down from Middlewich, Cheshire leaving behind two illegitimate children. We believe one was named Ron (born around 1930), and his mother's name was Gladys Cartledge. We think he was placed in a children's home, possibly Dr Barnados. I am in the process of asking them whether they have records of him but I was wondering how to go about finding his records within the Merchant Navy, if it is possible, as I don't know alot!



The other child was called George Cartledge and we did manage to find him. However we are stuck with his father. We believe Gladys and her family took him to court over child maintenance as he was gentry. Does anyone know how I could find any possible records ?

I think the maintenance case would have been heard at the quarter sessions in the relevant area - records should be in the relevant county records office. However unless you have the father's name on the child's birth cert I think it unlikely that any payments would be ordered.



Of course the father may have come to a private arrangement with the mother.
