Not sure if this is in the right section but im looking for a look up or if someone could tell me where to find marriage cert, not sure which registration area its in



Looking for marriage for Herbert Lockwood to a Clara (Unknown) on the BMD its in Dec 1882 Wortley vol 9c pg 391

Wortley is a small village between Sheffield and Barnsley in South Yorkshire.

There is only 1 Clara on the page Clara Parkin.

Wortley is in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Clara's surname was Parkin.



You do not have to order the certificate from the district in which it was issued. You can order a certificate for any registration district from thr GRO in Southport.



If you supply them with the reference details that you have eg the Quarter, the year, the district, the volume and the page numbvers and, of course, the name of the person then a certificate will cost £7.Go to www.gro.gov.uk and you can order on line.

My family came from Wortley and always described it as a suburb of Leeds. There was Lower Wortley and Upper Wortley.

Forgot to say the registration district was Bramley

Wortley, as in the Registration District is north Sheffield/Barnsley borders the Volume number 9c gives the clue! (Providing you are researching rellies in the Sheffield area!)



As you say somerset3, although your family "came from Wortley" the Registration District was Bramley, which is in/near Leeds.



There can be a lot of confusion with Reg Dis and areas!



My ancestors were from Handsworth, Sheffield...but there is also a Handsworth in the West Midlands (Birmingham area??!) you can easily get confused

New Wortley, Upper Wortley, Lower Wortley, definitely in Leeds.



The Wortley registration district definitely not in Leeds.



As Don and Loz said, Wortley reg district covered North of Sheffield to Barnsley.



When I first started family history I was confused by Wortley even dismissing BMD's registered there, as I knew the rellies I was looking for were from Silkstone, in the Barnsley area, and assumed Wortley reg district was in Leeds. How wrong I was! I did eventually establish where Wortley reg district was and found the records I was looking for.
