Thread: HIRD-Look up help please USA New Jersey Census

Hi everyone,



Can someone please help with the information I know will be on the 1920 and 1930 Census - Rutherford, Bergen, New Jersey.



I am wanting Sam Hird birth showing on Census index 1860

Wife Mary, birth showing, 1860 and daughter Eleanor, birth showing 1889.

They were all born in Bingley Yorkshire.

I would really like to know the Census details including address if possible.



I am not sure, but it might be possible that Sam and family could be on the 1910 USA Census as well.



Any help would be very much appreciated.

The addresses for 1920 & 1930 are probably the same but hard to read.

Thank you VERY much for the wonderful Census information. We have also found Sam and family's Shipping info through Ellis Island. They went out on the Celtic in 1903, also saying they had been to the USA before, so there may be more info to find. I have their British Census info. We still can't find their Son Charles shipping info, going out around 1900-1901 we would think. Charles Wife Esther went out in 1902, but still cannot find her return to England.



As I had found Charles birth 1877 Bingley, Yorkshire, I didn't go onto Family Search because of the date, but I thought I might find some info for Sam (Father) and as luck would have it, Charles Harrison Hird was there with Pedigree. It gave Charles actual birth and death dates, but not where he died. It also gave Sam, Mary, and Eleanor's death dates in Bergen. I'm not sure if I will ever find Charles death information in 1904, but I will keep trying. I keep wondering if an illness, accident or?

The 1910 census states - 3 Children born, 2 living/Eng/Eng/Eng - Would this mean that Charles was the one that died and therefore died before 1910.

Yes, Charles died. Charles was the husband of my Gt.Aunt Esther Jane (nee Hall). I have Charles death date as 2nd July 1904. I know Esther had their daughter Eleanor Annie in Edmonton England 1900. Esther and Eleanor went to join Charles in Concord N.Carolina in 1902. Their son Jack was born in the USA 1904 ish (age 7 on the 1911 Census) I am not sure where, but possibly Concord. I found Esther (Widow) with children living at her parents in the 1911 Census Edmonton.



Charles and Esther married in 1899 Edmonton and I have not found them in the 1901 Census no matter what I tried. Lucky for me Esther did not re-marry, and I have found her death in Edmonton 1965 and have sent for the Certificate. It may help with some information about Charles.



I am not sure if I will ever find Charles death place, or Jack's birth. I have searched for Jack's death, but cannot settle on any British deaths at the moment, only a possible perhaps in Haringey 1966. So far, I think I have searched for Jack's death up to the age of 100. I think I will do a few more years just to make sure.

Just thought I would let you know that someone gave me a shipping record for a Mrs. E Hird, Miss Annie Hird and Infant Hird coming back to England on the Ship Finland - New York to Dover arrival 24th Oct. 1904. The ages are all wrong, they made a few mistakes, but I am pretty sure this is my family. We saw the original page on Ellis Island site. Charles died in July, so October for Esther coming home looks good. I am still trying to find Charles voyage out to the USA. No luck yet!
