    Default ELIZA BLAKE

Does anyone think this is the same family.

I have Alfred Blake 1842 born Paddington

    Frances 1856 born Kentish Town

    Arthur A 1874 born Kilburn

Elizabeth R 1878 born West Kensington

    Frederick W 1883 " "

    Robert E 1885 " "

    William J 1886 " " This is my grandad

    Jessie L 1889 " "

I have Alfred and Frances' marriage cert 1889 and it says Alfred was a widower.

I had a feeling Arthur may not have been Frances' but the first wife so as i could'nt find Arthur anywhere but i did find Albert Arthur, also born in Kilburn.

Sent for the cert and it came back as mother Eliza Blake late Wood formerly Brown father Alfred Blake.

My problem now is i cant find any record of Eliza on anything no bmd.Not even her first marriage.

Can you see if these are the same

    Thank you Pam

The family in the 1891 census are one family, what is not certain is are the children born prior to 1889 :
    • The result of a previous marriage between Alfred and Eliza Wood / Brown
    • Children from a previous marriage of Frances* who have taken Alfred's surname
    • * if she was married before
    • A mix of children from Alfred and Frances's previous marriages
    • is Jesse the child of Frances or Eliza (did she die giving birth )
    • if Arthur A and Albert Arthur are the same person who is Eliza Wood and was she previosly married.
Who are the parents on your grandfathers birth cert (William J Blake 1897)

    Hi Noggin

You have the right family in kensal green .Williams mother on the cert was Fanny nee Murray.

This is what i think so far.

I think Alfred was married to Eliza but when i don't know .I have gone through marriage records between 1863 and 1873 for Alfred , i put in both Wood and Brown nothing.

I know Alfred and Frances married 1889 .Did they have to wait that long as Eliza was still alive and would'nt divorce Alfred ?

Im just assuming that if Arthur was ELIZA's maybe so was Elizabeth R,but i can't find a birth for her either .If i could find it i could send for her birth cert.

And maybe the rest of the children are Frances',there were another two around 1900 Amy and then Bertie but i can't put my hands on the info at the moment i'm sure it was in the 1901c.

I have sent for Jessie L 1889 to see what comes back on that .I think this is going to be a long search.

    Hi Pam,

Have you seen this 1881 census record? Fanny was an ironer, as was Frances 1891. Fanny born Kilburn, all children born Kensington. If this is them, and I think it most likely is, then Elizabeth R Blake (1891 census) is Rosa on the 1881 census, maybe using her middle name?

Name: Alfred Blake Age: 30 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1851 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Fanny Gender: Male Where born: Marylebone, Middlesex, England

Civil Parish: Kensington County/Island: London Country: England

Street address: 45 Appleford Rd Condition as to marriage: MarriedOccupation: Labourer

Registration district: Kensington Sub-registration district: Kensington Town

Alfred Blake 30 Fanny Blake 24 Arthur Blake 7 Rosa Blake 4 Ada Blake 1

    Hi ya,

Yes i came acros that but don't think it's my Alfred as he was born in 1842 in Paddington.

I know everything else ties in and i know the birth dates can sometimes be a bit out but i didn't think 10 years could be right.

But i will admit i keep coming back to it thinking is it .

Really don't know ,i just wish i could find a birth for Elizabeth then i could see who her mother was and that would be another hurdle down.

Pam, the 1891 census gives Alfred's age as 40, not 49, and there's less than a mile between Marylebone and Paddington.

I have the same one. Look at Noggin's post above (link 2) he also has his age as 40.

I'm not sure where to go from here ,how can i find anything out on Eliza.

I assume her dob would be near to Alfreds .I'l have a look at the 1871c as the only one i have he is 30 and he should be 20.So in light of your census saying he is 40 in1891 that must be the wrong Alfred
