Can anyone give me some help in finding the birth date and place of my Great Great Grandfather.



Here is what I have;



John Lindsay Fairweather

Married to Agnes Cunningham Fairweather (MS Turnbull)

Died 17th February 1949 aged 70

John once lived at 3 Northcote Street in Edinburgh.



John's father and mother were Andrew Fairweather (Tailor) and Jessie Lyndsay. Andrew Fairweather died at at 3 Northcote Street in Edinburgh.but his given usual address was Balfron, Stirlingshire.



I found a John George Fairweather born to an Andrew Fairweather and Jessie Lyndsay in Balfron on the 1881 Cencus. The year is one out and the middle name is wrong. However his mothers maiden name was Lyndsay (My Great,great Grandfathers middle name) is it possible he had two middle names?



It's fairly important that I get this one right as I've recently discovered another family tree with, I think the same John Fairweather on it, along with 12,000 other names on it!

If your only doubt is the middle name I think you've found the right chap. I have lots of folk who use different middle names, swap their first and middle name round or invent new names for themselves.



If you have the right parents and they match up on the census, I'd guess you have the right chap.

Have you got the marriage of Andrew to Jessie or did you get her name from the death certificate

It's been a long time.



I have John's parent’s names from both his death and his marriage certificate.



When John Lindsay Fairweather married Agnes Cunningham Fairweather (MS Turnbull) his place of residence is given as 3 Northcote Street Edinburgh on the marriage certificate as well as naming his parents as Andrew Fairweather and a Jessie Lindsay, John's middle name.



When John died in 1949 the death certificate names Andrew Fairweather and Jessie Lindsay as his mother and father (deceased)



When I found a death certificate for his father Andrew Fairweather, it stated that he died at 3 Northcote Street in 1916 aged 77 and showed his wife to be Jessie Lindsay. It also stated that his usual residence was Balfron in Stirlingshire. (Tailor retired)



As John Lindsay Fairweather died in 1949 aged 70 I knew I was looking for a child born 1878/1879 with the parents Andrew Fairweather and Jessie Lindsay in the area around Balfron, in Stirlingshire.



I also found on the 1881 census (for Balfron) an Andrew (Gamekeeper) born Forfarshire aged 42 and a Jessie Fairweather aged 42 along with a John Fairweather aged 3



I found a birth certificate for a John Fairweather born February 1878 in the parish of Strathblane 3 and ½ miles from Balfron, to an Andrew Fairweather (Gamekeeper) and Jessie Lindsay.

Aged 20 married a J Lindsay aged 21

Andrew’s mother and father shown as

Andrew Fairweather and Janet Robbie

Jessie’s mother and father shown as

John Lindsay and Janet Mackay.



I think I have the correct John Lindsay Fairweather (My GG Grandfather) and his two parents and probably his grandparents. All the details I have match with a family tree on Tribal pages which has 12,000 names on it. So you can imagine I’m pretty nervous about getting this one right. Potentially my family tree is going to go from 200 to 12,200 overnight. Hence the reason for calling in the experts. Do you think your servers will cope with a family tree with 12,200 names on it?

I will take a look sometime when I am more awake. I had the same happen to me. The tree I found to connect mine to was 13,000 plus. I added it without checking but one day noticed that one man had his first child at the age of 77. I think that a whole generation had been missed. Also as it then linked to a famous tree someone may have just joined it because it looked good. The treemaker was able to handle it then but I have removed that part. One day I hope to find someone that can do a lookup for me to either prove it right or wrong.

Yes it had crossed my mind about the accuracy of such a large tree. How on earth would you go about validating all 12,000 entries? I suppose you would have to take it on trust that someone else's tree will be as accurate as your own.
