Thread: Missing death records?

Hi all,



I'm just wondering if someone can put me right. I had thought that the findmypast.com site listed all deaths from 1837 but I have been unable to find my Great Great Grandfathers on there. His name was Peter Campbell and we know he died in Manchester bewteen 1891 and 1895 but there's no matching recorded deaths on the site. Does anyone know if the website is a complete listing of all registered deaths, or are there some that are only held at libraries and Archives centres?

Thanks - yes we thought that was the one but when we sent for the certificate it was the wrong Peter Campbell !



We are pretty sure he died in manchester but not 100%. (He was there on the 1891 census and was dead before 1895) We basically did a search through all of findmypast website records and listed the possible ones but having already sent for some certificates that were wrong, we have reached a dead end, so I wondered if there were other records that weren't on the website.

I'll take a look at Ancestry's original records, going through them frame by frame, incase he's not been transcribed.

I've searched the GRO records on Ancestry going through them quarter by quarter 1891-95, and he's not there.



It may be worth you contacting the local register office, as not all records made it to the GRO.

I can't see him in 1891, was he mistranscribed?

Not the Records Office, you would need the Register Office. If he died in hospital he might not be in the same registration district as the one he lived in either.



It's also possible he is mistranscribed in the index or maybe added on at the end of the page.
