Thread: Rose SMITH born abt 1900/1901 in essex/London

Hi

I am looking for information on Rose and her parents.

I have her marriage cert (married William John Yapp on 12th June 1920 in Walthamstowe: 4a 53c, it states she was 20 years old and William was 21, they both were living at 37 South Grove, Walthamstowe and her father, Arthur was deceased) Witnesses were Arthur William Smith (presumed her brother) and Elizabeth Funge/Fonge or Tunge/Tonge? it's hard to read.



I have found her death record - 1942, Brentwood: 4a 506. 41 yrs old, she died in the bombings in the WW2 London. I don't have birth details or information on her mother.

Rose Smith's father was Arthur William Smith b. abt 1870 in Essex/ East London area. He worked as a coal porter.

All the information I've got on her dad came from family members.

Rose was known as Rosebud, there are a few Rose's in the Yapp side so I think it was a way to identify between them.

If this rings a bell with you, please help.

Walthamstow doesn't have an e on the end.



The difficulty is that there are hundreds of Rose Smiths and Arthur Smiths. Can't see a likely Arthur William either.

Looking at 1901 census for Rose Smith with father Arthur. There is one in Walthamstow but father is listed as Arthur E R Smith. and he is a navvy.



There's another in West Ham but father worked as a labourer.

just found, in 2 rooms in Eckington Street, Tottenham, Middlesex:



Arthur Smith 28 coal porter b. Herts, Buntingford

Kate Smith, wife, 26 b Herts, Hitchin [where I live!!]

Charles, son, 5 London Islington

Rose daur [age is illegible, looks like it says new under] b Tottenham

Ancestry have transcribed Rose's age as under one month, so she only just made the census!



1901 census was taken 2/3 April, so Rose presumably born March 1901. She would have been registered either Mar or Jun quarter of 1901.



Tottenham came under Edmonton registration district.
