Thank you for trying to find Joseph Battersby he seems to be a dead end, every search comes up empty. He was at the Bradford war office in 1918 if that would be any help. Any help you can give me would be greatley appreciated as this man is a great mystery to our whole family as he died when my father was 5 years old in Ontario, Canada. Thank you again Myrna![]()
Hi myrnacapurna;
I found this on the 1911 Canadian Census;
Attachment 364
I hope it helps.
Al.
he is really beginning to annoy me nowi have searched the index of the 1911 census and there isnt a joseph battersby in bradford nor can i see one born right year nearby. unfortunately cant see details as it is pay per view.
in 1901 and 1891 the only one i can see in bradford is the one already quoted, which would fit other than the fathers name. i can trace that father george back to his parents and he is never known as tom, although his father is tom interstingly enough. i wonder if a mistake could have been made somewhere along the line.
the 1881 birth certificate of the joseph born bradford might be worth buying.
Name:Joseph BattersbyYear of Registration:1881 Quarter of Registration:Apr-May-Jun District:Bradford County:Yorkshire - West Riding, West Yorkshire Volume:9b Page:164
it would confirm the fathers name and as you know the exact birth date of jospeh it would act as a checking point so you would know whether you had the right one or not. the chances of another joseph battersby born bradford exact date are extremely slim to non existant.
i think it is the only way forward. if it is the right one if you come back can give you the census detail etc of the family going back quite away.

I agree with Welshlady, if this was my family history I'd buy the certificate. There's very few Battersby's on the censuses living in Yorkshire, so a good chance that the birth certificate's the right one, and as Welshlady pointed out - if you buy the cert it will have date of birth.
Most Battersby's on the census returns were living and born in Lancashire.
Thank you everyone for all your sleuthing, I have come up against this exact same wall, found this family with George as the head, mother Annie, son Joseph and even a brother Thomas and another one George is I remember correctly but just unsure if this is my grandfather. My dad's younger sister (Joseph's daughter) is still living, although very old and getting sick. I will give her a call to see if she knows anything about her grandfather. she is living in Ontario, Canada and this English family was unknown to everyone. I have just started my journey in geneology and came to a quick end, (I thought) thank you all again.![]()
