    Default Hawkins family

    Hi y'all, me again.

I've been asked by my Aunty to try and find out about my great grandfathers family.

His name was Harry Hawkins and he was born around 1888 (I think!), and he was a wheelwright.

Apparently he had 18 brothers and 2 sisters. The sisters names were Violet and Daisy Hawkins, but I only know the name of one of the brothers, Richard Hawkins, known as Dickie. But the other brothers names were all royal sounding!

Harry Hawkins was married to Ellen Summers of Upcott Farm in Oakford, Devon.

Harry's father was a Robert Hawkins.

Also, it seems that Richard Hawkins emigrated to America

This is typical of my family to be awkward! So any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

    As always, thanks a million.

    marriage

    Name: Henry Hawkins

    Year of Registration:1913 Quarter of Registration:Oct-Nov-Dec Spouse's Surname:Summers District:Tiverton Countyevon, Somerset Volume:5b Page:895

given that marriage date i think a birth of 1888 is a bit late as he would only be 15.

poss births - there are quite a few to choose from

    Hi Flood,

Like Welshlady, I also couldn't find the right ones with a father called Robert. Are you sure of his name ? I did come across one with a lot of Royal sounding names, but not all the siblings you mentioned were named. Were the ones you have older or younger that Harry.

Star and Welshlady, I don't have any other info but that. But I agree that an 1888 birth date just doesn't sound right. Plus I'm not entirely sure if Harry's first name was Henry or Harold, but Harold seems the more likely, I've just never heard anyone refer to him as anything but Harry.

My Mum's family area right pain!

Anyway thank you both for the help.

do you have the marriage certificate - that would help confirm the fathers name.

Note the marriage entry say henry so i suspect his birth might be under that name. often henry's are called harry eg prince harrys full names are Henry Charles Albert David but he is never known as anything but prince harry.

Welshlady, I don't have the marriage cert I'm afraid.

I have just found out that both Violet and Daisy Hawkins ended up in a mental institute in the village of Starcross near Dawlish in Devon.

I have no idea if the Institute is still there.

well if you want to make progress i would think about buying the marriage certificate to make sure of fathers name - as we cant find children with a robert .

Welshlady, thank you so much for that. I will seriously have to think about buying the cert.
